You might know just enough about copywriting to do some damage, but not enough to feel comfortable calling yourself a copywriter. AmIRight?
When we try something new for the first, we usually operate on base instinct and it’s how most copywriters start out.
We trust our gut and a lot of times it works out just fine. That is… until we want to level up.
…Increase our rates, book a complex project, or attract a more sophisticated (higher-paying) client — that’s when we start to doubt ourselves and our skills.
This is the paradox of writing copy on instinct.
Can I let you in on a little secret though?
All it takes is a solid understanding of the fundamentals and boom, you’re a wizard Harry copywriter.
The good news is that these same fundamentals will come in handy for years (or decades) to come — whether you’re working with clients or marketing your own copywriting business.
That’s probably because you’ve been writing on instinct and piecing info from multiple sources.
AmIright?
Before going through the Copywriting Master Class, Jennifer Duby had been dabbling in freelance work for nearly 2 years. Tired of taking whatever work she could get, she knew she needed to be more deliberate if she wanted to grow her business.
“I felt like I needed some qualifications, partly to educate myself but also as a validation to say yeah, I do actually know what I’m talking about”
The Copywriting Master Class helped Jennifer formalize her knowledge, put what she was learning into practice, and build a business writing copy and content for clients.
“Part of what I was thinking about was, am I going to do copywriting or am I going to do content writing. There’s so much grey area between those two things that this class gives you the tools that you need to do either. This class will set you up to be able to do what you want to do.”
Hey, I’m Belinda Weaver (but you can call me Bill) — owner of Copywrite Matters, cohost of the Hot Copy Podcast and massive Dr Who fan.
Before building Copywrite Matters into a successful copywriting business, I spent years developing and implementing marketing strategies. I took many campaigns from idea to execution before realising copywriting was the practice I enjoyed most.
Over the years I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t. As a copywriter, I used that experience to help my clients create unique brands — starting with their copywriting.
Now I share my proven techniques to help copywriters level up their writing skills and their businesses.
These should help you dig into the craft of copywriting. And I want to quickly leave you a reminder.
