Step into what makes your heart sing

A woman sitting at a desk with a laptop and a cup of coffee.

There’s a feeling in your waters that there is something else you are meant to be doing with your life but leaving the security of what you have known is just too much to overcome. You might tell yourself “Better the devil you know” or you always have a reason why you couldn’t possibly do something that you’d been dreaming of since your brain stopped growing.

So, if this has made your eyeballs spasm and you had to re-read that first bit, I’ve struck gold!

I am here to tell you not to be too tough on yourself if, every day, you find yourself hating what you are doing. There will be a day when you will say  “Right, I’m not doing this any more!”  When that day turns up, bottle how you feel in the bottom of your gut. That solid feeling of conviction that you are going to change the world. Do whatever you have to, but one thing I will recommend is writing this down:

“I promise to not allow any fear of mine or others sway me from what I know in my heart that I must do.”

Every time that dropkick brain comes in and says “Ohhh, I don’t know… do you think you are doing the right thing?”,  get that promise out and read it to yourself over and over and over again until the fear goes away.

Then, the next prompter card you need to write is:

“Thank you for your concern, I know you care about me. This is the decision I’ve made and I’m going to do my best to make a go of it.”

That’s for the people around you who cannot possibly see your greatest potential. They are the ones who are operating from their own position of fear and lack of their own inability to jump out of their comfort zone. Because they love you and automatically think that you are them, they will try and stop you from ruining your life…because they love you.

Deep breath IN!

So knowing that you are faithful and trusting followers of our dear Copy Detective, I’m going all pep-talky on people who have got it going “orn” in their business life. Just in case that is your situation but there’s a bit missing in your personal life, this will double up for business or pleasure.

My story

2012 was a defining year for me.

My moment came in 2009, with the GFC and being made redundant. The moons aligned, I had no more excuses and I started my own communications agency. Three years down the track, I finally found my true place. I closed my communications agency and have dedicated my future career to being the Chief Communications Officer and the face of the Goddess Imperative Worldwide. It’s a company that empowers women worldwide and helps men who do not understand why we need change to see it so clearly they have no alternative other than to seek the change also.

I still help people and businesses communicate, it’s just with a company that’s going to change the world#!

# Make sure you “embiggen” yourself and your beliefs – it feels AMAZING!

Now, here’s the best bit. This is where I have turned into an alchemist and melded my passion as a communicator with my passion for enhancing humanity through the voice of reason that helps rid society of self-limiting beliefs.

If I’m getting too woo-woo for you, stay with me – that’s about the limit of the woo-woo.

I still help people communicate but now it’s from the inside out – it’s a holistic picture with a corporate foundation. AND…it only took three years! Bargain! I would be devastated to be turning 62 this month and only finding out my place. I’ve got a whole 20 years of changing lives ahead of me and I can tell you, I can hardly wait.

I provide a very clear communication strategy to corporate forums with minimal woo-woo and a very staunch voice of reason behind the message that women need to take their rightful place in society. Believe it or not, I do this with corporate businesses owned by men and women. There is no men-hating. There is no damaging the male while trying to elevate the female.

2013 will see us publish a couple of books. These will be a shining light in the Goddess Imperative window thanks to a strong communication strategy and, most of all, following my gut and knowing that I am doing the right thing.

One of the best in the industry for sticking to personal brand, owning her personality, embracing her gift for writing AND building relationships is Belinda Weaver [aw thanks Amanda!]. We have earmarked Belinda as our copywriter of choice for the work we will be doing in 2013. We are on the same page in all things that matter, and the things that don’t matter we love anyway.

Make your heart sing in 2013

So, my message for you for 2013 is…. Go ‘orn, get out there, let that fire in your belly light up your heart and go and step into what makes your heart sing.

Make a plan, have a strong brand strategy, know what you want to say, who you want to say it to and then start engaging in relationship building through every means of communication you can; that includes what you say to yourself each and every day when you wake up.

Set the intention that the best people will come into your life to make it happen and it will work.

I know some of this sounds woo-wooey, and I’m very pleased to have been dubbed the Corporate Woo-Woo by a couple of amazing women, authors Allie and Genine. If I have the pleasure of meeting you one day, I guarantee that you will not be frightened, but enlightened as to how easy it is to live and breathe your passion through your work.

Health, happiness and prosperity to you!

  1. Hi Amanda (and Belinda), loved this post on so many levels. It’s comes at a time when I had a crisis of faith this week about being the writer I want to be and worrying about whether it is financially viable. So thank you I shall hold my head up high and think about writing a plan and work harder at networking. I’m especially heartened by your goal Amanda to enhance women’s place in society without damaging men. I’m not generally fond of limiting people to tags; nonetheless sounds like progressive feminism to me, and a notion I believe will take women further and garner more respect.

    Thanks again.

    1. Thanks for being so open about your week Karla. I think, as business owners, we all experience those moments of doubt and I applaud your renewed vigour.

Starting out I thought to myself, I can always go back to my old corporate life if this fails…. and it just makes me work even hard to make sure it doesn’t! I work hard but it feels good to be doing something that makes my heart sing and makes me happy 🙂

    2. So glad it resonated with you Karla. I never underestimate saying things out aloud and when they arrive in front of SOMEONE that they will impact and keep them going.

Yes on the enhancing women without diminishing the man. So important to us at GI. We love men! As with any relationship, to make your life better, it comes to no end if you make someone else’s worse. Do make sure you come and tell us about how things are going with you on our page too. We love hearing how people are travelling. x
